The UK Experience
About 250,000 classrooms in the United Kingdom have adapted IWBs and made considerable learning gains. According to the British Educational Communications and Technology Agency (BECTA) learning gains of 4.75 months for ages 5-7 and 3.5 months for average and high ability pupils aged 7-11 months were observed after the introduction of IWB to classrooms. It has been observed that the IWB has had a very positive impact on attention, motivation, concentration and cooperation in students. It also helps students grasp difficult concepts and complex problems. Research has also showed that IWB increases the motivation level of students and helps in greater student-teacher participation. Color helps master concepts, while true multimedia aids concentration. It is also easy to save and share resources and even save material for the next year.
